Virginia Emergency Room & Waiting Room – Hampton, VA
This project entailed the renovation of the existing Emergency Department located on the 1st floor of building 110B (approx. 9,500 SF) at the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The purpose of the renovation was to provide a state-of-the-art facility that included a new fast-track unit. The design provided for five new patient observation & treatment rooms, a life support unit, nurse’s station/communication center, exam rooms (isolation, security, and multi-purpose types), medication room, clean supply room, ADA restrooms, clean & soiled utility rooms, housekeeping aid closet, office space, reception area, vital signs stations, and waiting area. Scope included the construction’s phasing to allow the facility’s continued use and the design of new circulation patterns for better staff flow. Several design charrettes and meetings, as well as the creation of a 3D walk-thru video, enabled the staff to better understand the design team’s vision of the project.
